Bora-Care

Bora-Care has been proven to prevent termite attacks during 12 years of efficacy studies, as well as during successful use in hundreds of thousands of homes, By diffusing deep into wood fibers, Bora-Care lasts for as long as the wood is in service. That means its controlling power also lasts.

Replaces Old Style Soil Treatments: With traditional soil treatments, 200-300 gallons of diluted termiticides are pumped into the ground under and around an average home, but soil treatments become ineffective over time. Bora-Care, sprayed directly on the wood, can be used to protect your home from the beginning. The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) allows wood treatment for termites in new construction. Bora-Care is also EPA-registered and listed for use under the 2006 International Residential Code. It meets the sill plate end-cut requirements set by building codes and the American Wood-Preservers Association (AWPA). Its "green" qualities have been recognized by Green Builder Magazine, which awarded Bora-Care its first-place Green Builder Award.

Research: Experience shows that subterranean termites can't even tube over Bora-Care treated wood or concrete. Treating the wood and concrete with Bora-Care during new construction or during remedial work eliminates infestations and provides residual control and protection. After all, it's the wood they're after.

International Building Code Evaluated and Listed: The National Evaluation Service Committee finds that the Bora-Care Termiticide, Insecticide and Fungicide described in this report complies with or is a suitable alternative to that specified in the 2000 International Building Code with 2001 Supplement, the 2000 International Residential Code with 2001 Supplement, the BOCA National Building Code/1999, the 1999 Standard Building Code, the 1997 Uniform Building Code, and the 1998 International One-and Two-Family Dwelling Code.

HUD: Change in Policy: In January 1999, the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) changed its 99A form to allow direct wood pretreatment with Bora-Care as a primary tool against termites in new horne construction. The change in HUD policy was brought about by the NPMA on behalf of its' members. In the past, HUD only listed soil treatments as a method of pretreating thus preventing mortgage lenders, builders and homeowners from taking advantage of EPA-registered wood treatments made with borates. Now, Bora-Care can be used to protect your horne from the beginning and is a much better alternative.

Subterranean Termite Prevention On New Residential Structures: Product Description- BORA-CARE is an EPA registered termiticide, insecticide and fungicide topically applied to wood for the prevention and elimination of termites, wood boring beetles, carpenter ants and wood decay fungi in new and existing structures. The National Evaluation Service has evaluated BORA-CARE as a termiticide preventative treatment on new construction.

NES report # NER-617 states: "The National Evaluation Service Committee finds that the BORA-CARE Termiticide, Insecticide and Fungicide described in this report complies with or is a suitable alternate to that specified in the 2000 International Building Code with 2001 Supplement, the 2000 International Residential Code with 2001 Supplement, the BOCA national Building/1999, the 1999 Standard Building Code, the 1997 Uniform Building Code, and the 1998 International One- and Two- family Dwelling Code."

Sample specification for new construction: Treatment For The Prevention Of Subterranean Termites In New Construction. For the prevention of subterranean termites in new construction use an EPA registered, topical application wood preservative that is labeled for the prevention of subterranean termites in new construction. This treatment will be a replacement of a soil termiticide application. The EPA register termiticide must contain the active ingredient disodium octaborate tetrahydrate and be labeled as a primary subterranean termite preventative treatment. A licensed professional pest management company must apply the te1111iticide according to EPA label directions. The EPA registered label will state, for subterranean termite prevention, that all the wood in the new structure must be treated or specifically state that a 24 inch band treatment is to be applied to all wood in contact vertically or horizontally to the block or slab foundation. The EPA registered termiticide is to have a product evaluation conducted by an evaluation committee associated with a national or regional building code.

BoraShield Levels:

Level: Termite Pretreatment: Bora-Care is a borate-based termiticide, insecticide and fungicide. During the dried-in phase of construction, it is applied directly to concrete and in a two-foot band to all wood that comes in contact with the foundation, creating a barrier as well as eliminating wood as a food source. It soaks completely in the wood, providing protection against subterranean termites, carpenter ants, wood boring beetles and wood decay fungi. Bora-Care remains in the wood as long as the wood is in services.

Level II: Whole House Pretreatment: Bora-Care is applied to all structural wood, providing long-term whole-house protection against drywood termites, carpenter ants, wood boring beetles and wood decay fungi.

Level III: Combination Pretreatment: The Bora-Care application combines the coverage of both Levels I and II for unprecedented protection.

Level IV: Whole House Pretreatment With Mold-Care: Mold-Care kills existing mold on wood and prevents mold from growing. This treatment includes all structural wood and can include other cellulosic materials such as sheet rock.
